Taiwan's Lunar New Year by Julia Janicki

A visual story going over on some common dishes frequently consumed during Lunar New Year in Taiwan and related symbolisms. One of the many hallmarks of this 16-day celebration is the feasting involved as loved ones gather from near and far to enjoy a variety of dishes, often around a rotating turntable (the lazy susan).

The story is anchored around a lazy susan that has various dishes on top of it, and as the user scrolls the turntable rotates to the next dish, with text on the side explaining its symbolism.

It was developed using JavaScript (D3, Scrollama), with illustrations created in Adobe Illustrator.
