Zero Emission Technology Inventory by CALSTART
The Zero-Emission Technology Inventory (ZETI) tool is an interactive online resource that establishes a current and shared knowledge base for worldwide commercially available offerings of zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (ZE-MHDVs). The tool aims to provide fleets and governments with comprehensive information on vehicle specifications, and also includes regions where zero-emission brands are available for purchase, and the timeline over which additional models are expected to become available.
ZETI was first launched in March 2020, and over the years, has been steadily attracting users from around the world and contributing to research on the ZE-MHDV industry. Between March 1st 2022 and September 1st 2022, ZETI received 8,391 views by 5,305 users from 82 countries or regions. These included 3,915 users from North America, 926 users from Europe, 379 from Asia, 63 from Oceania, 41 from South America, and 16 from Africa. In addition, ZETI serves as the main data source for the Electric Heavy-Duty Vehicles section in the industry-leading Global EV Outlook 2022 report by International Energy Agency (IEA).
ZETI is powered by one of the largest and most up-to-date truck and bus availability datasets in the zero-emission MHDV industry. The data is carefully curated and actively updated by the Global Commercial Vehicle Drive to Zero and Validation and Assessment teams at CALSTART, a global not-for-profit organization. With the unparalleled data, ZETI presents vehicle specifications, images, and available incentives for 815 truck and bus models from 166 OEMs in North America, Europe, China, India, and Latin America.
In ZETI, users can use filters to explore vehicle models by different fuel types, availability timelines, vehicle types, or OEMs. The tool follows a logical flow from broad to more narrow parameters, but it is not inherently a linear process that a user must follow. For example, if a user is interested in a certain OEM, they could easily filter the dashboard by selecting the OEM and viewing their available models, vehicle types, and fuel types available from them. This function aims to make ZETI exploratory in nature and a valuable learning tool for governments, fleets, and other knowledge and research organizations, or even regular individuals interested in ZE- MHDVs.
ZETI also allows users to compare specifications and incentives among up to three models. By clicking on a model name under “SELECT VEHICLE MODEL”, one can add or remove the model from “VEHICLE MODEL COMPARISON” table to the right. The second way to remove model from comparison table is to click on the red cross at the bottom. This comparison function makes ZETI the go-to resource for users who are interested to learn about and compare ZE-MHDV models in the entire market, and is especially helpful for fleets that are looking to understand what models are available and their related operational capacity.
