Sankofa and Ubuntu by Icaro Bernardes

This work contains data on the past of the African-American community: both pride and horror. The central piece of this graph is a curved bar chart that shows the number of enslaved people brought to the US across periods. These bars double as wings of the Sankofa, a mythical bird that flies forwards but looks backward. It represents the idea of looking back at the past to find the wisdom to forge the future.

At its forward-inclined feet, there is a simplified timeline of African-American achievements through the years. Again, to represent how Black people everywhere built the future.

Finally, one of the fonts I used is called Ubuntu. This word represents the idea of a shared bond by humanity. If anyone's rights are up for grabs, then everyone's rights aren't safe.
