An Interactive History of Impact Investing by Connor Rothschild

This is an interactive infographic which visualizes years of “impact investing” (socially responsible investment) in a horizontally-scrolling timeline. The project is an updated version of an already-developed static infographic, which we had adapted for interactive exploration.

Early on in the project we faced challenges related to information density: how do we include enough information to encourage further exploration, but not so much per screen as to overwhelm the user? Toward that end, we leveraged visual effects like blurring and opacity, to present many events at once while only focusing on a few.

The project features smooth animations, the ability to drill down into specific events via click, and exploration via a “map” to jump between years.
