Life became suffering. Illustrated stories from the siege of Mariupol. by USA Today
These are illustrated memories of four people who endured one of the darkest moments of Russia's war on Ukraine.
Karina Zaiets, herself displaced from Ukraine, and the USA TODAY Graphics team, including Ariana Torrey, Veronica Bravo, Katelyn Ferral, and Janie Haseman, interviewed survivors of some of the Russian invasion’s worst moments with the intention of conveying their stories visually and in their own words. In one series, the devastation of the port city of Mariupol is described in the words of several survivors as vivid and faithful illustrations illuminate the tragic scenes.
The project consists of a landing page which leads to the stories of four individuals who shared their stories with us.
