Can I Eat It Yet? A visual guide to seasonal fruit and veg by Diana MacDonald
This interactive data visualisation project answers the question of what fruits and vegetables are in season throughout the year. Picking food locally when it's in season usually means it'll be: fresh, nutritious, full of flavour, and cheaper.
The information in this project is tailored to different regions of Australia. This empowers readers to buy groceries from Australian growers when they are in season locally. This helps individuals reduce the grocery bill during the cost-of-living crisis and ongoing supermarket sector pricing inquiry. By raising awareness of local seasonality, this information may also reduce the carbon footprint of transporting produce from further afield.
In the absence of existing information on this topic, I gathered the data for this project myself from a wide variety of sources. Over time, I've added additional detail about specific varieties and continue to expand the dataset.
