2023 State of the Data Visualization Industry Survey Results, ISOTYPEd by Viktoriia Vasiukova

The purpose of the annual SOTI survey conducted by the Data Visualization Society is to gain insight into the individuals involved in data visualization and to identify trends within the field.

In my submission for this year, I explored the works of the pioneers of isotype infographics – Otto and Marie Neurath and Gerd Arntz – and examined how they can be applied today. While I did not manage to replicate the iconic view of the entire world's population, I found the references (as seen at the bottom) suitable for representing survey responses in general. My personal challenge with this type of infographic was to embrace simplification and shift the focus from precision to a broader understanding.
