HOUSE OF VULNERABILITY: Identifying and addressing vulnerabilities within India’s Socioeconomic landscape by National Institute of Design

The project "House of Vulnerabilities" aims to explore the multifaceted nature of
vulnerability across various contexts, emphasizing how these vulnerabilities are
non-uniform but rather shaped by specific social, economic, and environment
factors. The project identifies seven significant vulnerability domains through
comprehensive analysis of existing literature and field research: environmental
socio-cultural, economic, physical, educational, political, and technological. The
research underscores the importance of context in understanding vulnerability
and advocates for resilience-building measures tailored to community needs. By
synthesizing insights from established scholars in the field, the project proposes
a framework that not only elucidates the factors contributing to vulnerability but
also outlines effective pathways toward fostering resilience. The find
highlight that economic and social resilience are critical across different historic periods, suggesting that empowering communities is essential for addressing vulnerability. This project serves as a call to action for policymakers, educators, and community leaders to implement sustainable practices that mitigate vulnerability and promote a more resilient future.
