Expedia partners with information designer Manuel Bortoletti to present its 24th Annual Vacation Deprivation Report. This infographic campaign transforms complex data into a compelling visual narrative, seamlessly integrating data visualizations and illustrations. Every element is purposefully designed to serve the campaign’s central mission: igniting a cultural call-to-action to address one of the biggest barriers to travel—our mindset toward taking time off.
At the heart of the design is the striking visual metaphor of an exploded clock, inviting viewers on a journey through characters claiming their time off. The circular design of the data visualizations echoes the clock’s face, creating a cohesive connection between the storytelling and the theme. As the narrative unfolds, the characters navigate a maze of gears and components—symbolic obstacles to overcome—ultimately reaching the reward of a well-deserved vacation.
As a result, the campaign includes a vertical poster featured alongside the report on Expedia’s website. Additionally, the content has been reorganized and adapted into carousel formats for Instagram and LinkedIn, ensuring accessibility and engagement across platforms. To complement the project, Manuel Bortoletti produced a behind-the-scenes Reel and TikTok videos, offering an exclusive look at the creative process behind this ambitious visual storytelling project.
