Streets to Stability: Breaking the cycle of homelessness in San Francisco by Jason Forrest
This project, developed in partnership with Crankstart—a San Francisco-based family foundation dedicated to fostering a just society—leverages data visualization to address the city's complex challenges in supporting unhoused individuals and service providers. The report outlines policy recommendations to modernize San Francisco's homelessness response by streamlining system access, improving service delivery, and optimizing government support management.
The initiative aims to build a more responsive and compassionate system, making homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring while transforming the city's overall strategy. Following Daniel Lurie's election as mayor last November, the plan's recommendations were fully adopted. Kunal Modi, this report's primary author, now leads its implementation as San Francisco’s Chief of Health, Homelessness, and Family Services.
